Hawaiian Musical Legend Willie K Loses Battle with Cancer

Hawaiian musical legend Willie K passed away Monday evening, 18 May 2020, at his Maui home following a 2-year battle with lung cancer. He was 59 years old. Willie K (full last name Kahaiali’i) began playing music as a boy. His professional music career took off in the 1990s. Over the years he recorded over a dozen albums under multiple labels, and also worked as a producer, promoter, and actor. DOE to Provide Grab-N-Go Meal Service at 38 Hawai'i Schools

The Hawaii Department of Education today (3-19-20) released the following information about student meal service for children 18 and younger: "During the extended closure [currently through April 7], HIDOE will continue to provide student meals, including providing grab-and-go breakfast and lunch at select schools to children 18 years and under at the following days and times: -Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. for breakfast. -Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. for lunch. -Note: Meals will not be served on Thursday, March 26 in observance of Prince Kuhio Day. Sunshine and Snow at the Mauna Loa Summit

Absolutely beautiful view this afternoon from the USGS-HVO webcam positioned on the north rim of Mokuʻāweoweo, the summit caldera of Mauna Loa. This webcam and others hosted by USGS are available here on the Tracker website--click on the volcano icon at the upper right corner and select "webcams" from the drop-down menu. A Winter Weather Advisory and Wind Advisory remain in effect for Big Island summits until 6pm today.

The other day I was looking at the visual satellite image and it looked like the snow in the caldera had melted. Looks like more fell by now.
